April 25-27, 2025 (Global Youth Service Day); April 11th - May 11th (Youth Service Month)

Global Youth Service Day, an annual event, recognizes the impact youth can make in their communities. During Global Youth Service Day, youths aged 5-25 are encouraged to work together to participate in community service activities for the common good, to make an impact in their communities. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. This year's theme is “POWERED BY HOPE, STRENGTHENED BY PREVENTION".  Prevent Child Abuse America recognizes that with the right support, families can build a brighter future for their children.  Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, child abuse can be prevented before it ever happens.  Find information to support your family and others on these resources...

Great Kindness Challenge Week 

Hawks Nest STEAM Academy is taking The Great Kindness Challenge! The Great Kindness Challenge Week is a nationwide event focused on the importance of being kind. This one week, January 27th - 31st, is devoted to performing as many acts of kindness as possible. The theme this year is Kindness Moves! Kindness moves hearts. Kindness moves minds. Kindness moves bodies. Kindness moves humankind. The week will involve numerous activities. And our student council will serve as our Kindness Ambassadors. We can't wait to see how many acts of kindness are done. What a wonderful way to continue to promote Bucket Filling!!!

Hawks Nest STEAM Academy Student Council - December Service Activity

In December, Student Council members honed leadership skills through serving the community. Student Council members assembled 75 craft kits for the Ronald McDonald House in Charlotte. Each grade level worked together to make the craft kits: Pipe Cleaner Bracelet Craft Kit (4th grade), Pipe Cleaner Lavendar Flower Craft Kit (3rd grade) and Pipe Cleaner Butterfly Ring Craft Kit (5th grade).  This service opportunity allowed student council members to further develop and demonstrate leadership skills - organization, collaboration, and cooperation.  We're so proud of their leadership and the impact they are making on our school and community!

GLOBAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY PROJECT

Our Global Youth Service Day Project was a HUGE success!  Thank you Hawks Nest students and families for supporting our spring service project.  Together, we collected over 300 items for the Food Pantry at Webb Street School! Way to be a Bucketfiller and Make A Mark in our community!!!

Random Acts of Kindness Day is February 17, 2024

                                      National School Counseling Week is February 5th - 9th.                                           The theme this year is “School Counselors: Standards-Based, Student-Focused.” 

Great Challenge Kindness Week is January 22 - 26, 2024

    The Great Kindness Challenge Week is one week devoted to performing as many acts of kindness as possible.

  Students will participate in Great Kindness Week activities. They will also have an opportunity to complete a  Kindness Checklist to see how many acts of kindness they can perform during the week. On Friday, January 26th, we are wearing yellow in recognition of kindness.
